11 Świętopełka, 84-141 Jurata, Poland
8.4 (97 reviews)

The facility formerly known as Melodia Jurata, located at 11 Świętopełka Street, is an interesting example of the Hel Peninsula's tourist scene. Although it no longer formally exists under that name, its history and heritage remain, as the building has undergone a complete transformation and been incorporated into the adjacent complex. An analysis of its functioning during its independent existence, based on numerous guest reviews, allows us to understand what constituted its strength and what ultimately contributed to its transformation. This is the story of a place full of contradictions, offering both unforgettable experiences and painful disappointments.

The advantages that attracted guests to Melodia

Melodia's greatest attraction was undoubtedly its location. Its location in Jurata, just a few minutes' walk from the beach, accessible via a picturesque path through a pine forest, was a dream come true for many vacationers. The proximity of the pier on the bay further enhanced the attraction. Guests appreciated the peace and quiet offered by this setting, making it an ideal choice for those seeking respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. It was precisely this location that led many people to choose alojamiento here, overlooking other shortcomings.

The second pillar of the positive experience was the extensive recreational infrastructure. Melodia aspired to be more than just a place to sleep; it was a nearly self-sufficient resort . Guests had access to a large heated swimming pool, jacuzzi, and saunas, which were especially appreciated on less sunny days. But that wasn't all. The property also offered a bowling alley, billiards tables, foosball, and a gym. This wide range of activities made it impossible to get bored, and the hotel stood out from the many other, often more modest, hotels and guesthouses in the area. This wasn't your typical albergue or hosteria , but a truly unique complex.

Another frequently praised element was the culinary aspect. The buffet-style breakfasts and dinners received very good reviews. Guests praised the freshness, variety, and flavor of the dishes. The extensive buffet was a perfect start and end to a day full of excitement, and for many, it was a significant factor in deciding to book a hospedaje here.

Shadows and shortcomings of the old Melody

Unfortunately, the image of Melodia Jurata was not uniform. The biggest problem, echoed in critical reviews, was the glaring inconsistency in the standard of accommodation offered. While some guests enjoyed spacious, modern, and clean rooms with comfortable beds, others encountered conditions far from ideal. Complaints included allegations of dirty bathrooms, poor ventilation, and unpleasantly cold rooms. Facilities were also problematic – one guest noted a worn-out extra bed that urgently needed replacing. This lottery in terms of accommodation quality was a serious drawback, undermining trust in the property.

Functionality proved particularly problematic. One comment described being assigned a disabled-accessible room without prior request, only to find the bathroom inoperable for a fully able-bodied guest. Such situations demonstrated a lack of management and concern for guest comfort.

Another major issue was noise. This problem stemmed from two sources. First, thin walls between rooms offered no privacy. Guests complained that they could hear literally everything their neighbors were doing, which is unacceptable in a property of this caliber. Second, there was the noise coming from outside. Although the nearby train gradually became less intrusive, the nighttime unloading of goods from trucks significantly disrupted sleep and relaxation. These types of issues fundamentally undermine the quality of any alojamiento .

Finally, there were criticisms of the overall maintenance and consistency of the offerings. The hotel, which strived to be family-friendly, had a playroom that was so cold it was unbearable. The playroom itself also needed a refresh. Furthermore, while the buffets were praised, the hotel's à la carte restaurant was described as expensive and serving low-quality dishes. These contrasts demonstrated that the property had potential but lacked consistency.

Transformation into part of the Best Western Hotel Jurata

Considering the above advantages and disadvantages, the decision to change ownership and modernize seems like a natural step in the evolution of this place. Around 2021, the former Melodia building was acquired and, after a thorough renovation, incorporated into the Best Western Hotel Jurata complex. The investment, carried out by Polski Holding Hotelowy, was primarily aimed at standardizing and raising the standard. The work included the modernization of several dozen rooms, including standard habitaciones, two studios, and one luxurious departmento with a large terrace.

The new interior design was intended to eliminate the major shortcomings of the old facility and introduce a cohesive, modern design reflecting its seaside location. The use of simple forms and a color scheme inspired by the sea and beach (navy blue and yellow) was intended to create a comfortable environment for relaxation. This transformation was a direct response to the quality and consistency issues that Melodia had been grappling with. In this way, the history of the facility at Świętopełka 11 has come full circle: from a place brimming with potential, but also with shortcomings, it has become an integral part of a larger, branded hotel , poised to fully utilize the advantages of this unique location.
