Tatra House Guesthouse
BackTatra House Guesthouse, located in the Krzeptówki district of Zakopane, is an interesting option for travelers with diverse expectations. It offers two distinct types of accommodation : traditional rooms in the main building and independent, regional cottages. This duality makes the assessment of the place ambiguous and largely dependent on the type of accommodation chosen.
Two worlds of accommodation: Cottages vs. Rooms
Tatra House's greatest asset seems to be its villas , stylish, wooden semi-detached cabañas (cottages). Guests who choose these apartamentos vacacionales (holiday apartments) praise their spaciousness, functionality, and extensive amenities. Each cottage features a living room with a fireplace (with wood provided), a kitchenette with a refrigerator, kettle, and tableware, and two bathrooms, a huge convenience for families or larger groups. This solution provides comfort and independence, similar to renting a private departamento (apartment), while also providing access to the amenities of a guesthouse.
A completely different picture emerges from reviews of the habitaciones (rooms) in the main building of the guesthouse. Although many people emphasize that they are clean, warm, and functional, with some balconies offering beautiful views of Giewont, there are also numerous criticisms. Guests point out the small size of both rooms and hallways, as well as the lack of wardrobes, which makes unpacking difficult during longer stays. A more serious complaint is the unpleasant smell coming from the old, and according to some reviews, dirty carpets. Privacy is also questionable – the communal terrace with low windows and the lack of blinds can be uncomfortable. Furthermore, the lack of a kettle and glasses in the rooms (available in the communal dining room) is a drawback compared to the standards of many modern hoteles (hotels) and hostales (hostels).
Gastronomy – A Strong Offering Point
One of the most frequently and enthusiastically praised aspects of a stay at Tatra House is the food. Both the extensive breakfast buffet and the dinners received very high marks. Guests praise the taste, freshness, and variety of dishes, including local specialties. Breakfast offers a wide selection of breads, cold meats, cheeses, salads, hot dishes (scrambled eggs, sausages, pancakes), and homemade cakes. The two-course dinners with dessert are also described as delicious. This makes Tatra House a true posada (guest house), where home cooking is the heart of the property. However, it's worth noting a few complaints about the lack of hot dishes at breakfast on the last day of the stay, which may indicate occasional fluctuations in quality.
Amenities and Location – What's Worth Knowing?
Tatra House offers its guests a well-kept garden with a children's playground, a barbecue and bonfire area, and a stylish gazebo. This is a major plus for families and organized groups, who can enjoy their time here. The property also has a relaxation area with a sauna and jacuzzi, although opinions are divided. Some guests find it unsightly, and the additional fee of PLN 50 per hour may be disappointing, especially for those seeking a resort -style experience. It's also worth noting that the sports field, which may have been featured in older listings, no longer belongs to the guesthouse.
Location – Peace and quiet close to the trails
The property's location in Krzeptówki is a distinctive feature, which some will find an advantage and others a drawback. Undoubtedly, its peace and quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of Krupówki Street, are a definite advantage, as is its proximity to hiking trails, including the Mała Łąka Valley and Kościeliska Valley. It's an ideal base for mountain hikers who value contact with nature over urban attractions. However, the distance from Zakopane's center (approximately 3 km) makes the hike to Krupówki quite long. Fortunately, the proximity of a bus stop makes it easy to reach the center and other parts of the city.
Summary – Who is Tatra House for?
Considering all aspects, the Tatra House guesthouse presents itself as a place with two faces. On the one hand, it offers fantastic, fully equipped cottages , an ideal choice for alojamiento (accommodation) for families and groups of friends who value independence, space, and high standards. On the other hand, the rooms in the main building, although clean, show signs of wear and tear and may not meet the expectations of those accustomed to modern hotel standards. The building's exterior is also described as requiring renovation. Regardless of the accommodation option chosen, guests can expect excellent cuisine and very friendly, professional service. This place is recommended for those who prioritize delicious, home-cooked food, proximity to hiking trails, and a regional atmosphere, with issues such as modern design or minor room inconveniences being secondary. This is not a typical albergue (mountain shelter) or luxurious hostería (inn), but a place with authentic highland character, with its own strengths and weaknesses.
